As Canadians, and as with most Canadians, we are pretty much up to date on US News. There’s really no way to avoid it. So here are our unsolicited thoughts, Shut up already! Mark Meadows, John Eastman, Marjorie-Taylor-Green, Lauren Boebert, Madison Cawthorn, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, there Big Orange leader, and a host of others are constantly being portrayed as under investigation, or in legal jeopardy. From here at ‘Notes from the North’, we say, either put them all on trial and put them in jail or, if that is not going to happen just say so and shut up about it. The US is either a nation built on the law, in which the laws apply to everyone or it isn’t. Crimes for which the average American would have been arrested, tried and convicted by now are, for all of these people, news items ad-infinitum. The inequality of justice in the US between the rich and well connected and everyone else is prominently on stage. If these people have in fact broken the law, deal with them. If they have not, get off their case. We at ‘Notes from the North’ see a lot of what should probably be called insurrection and incitement, certainly major forms of civil disobedience, and certainly a great deal is childish behaviour. But then again STUPID is not against the law. Simple conclusion, enforce the laws of the land, equally and without favour or admit that the aristocracy and/or autocracy exists and that they are judged under a very different standard. And by the way, tell Tucker Carlson to shut up about Canada, a country he knows nothing about. His opinions are not needed nor are they appreciated. His style works best in a dysfunctional society, so keep it there.
