Our politicians tell us the decades old relationship with the U.S. is over, and that we should build a new Canadian economy.  As a result, millions of Canadians are bypassing American goods on grocery and other store shelves.  Canadians are avoiding vacations and even shopping trips to the U.S.   But oddly one distinct Canadian group isn’t buying Canadian, they’re not supporting Canada at all. The curious part is that this group is the very one advising the rest of us to support Canada. Our governing bodies, while telling us to support Canada, are themselves spending billions of our tax dollars in American and other adversary countries.  While China imposes tariffs on Canadian agricultural products, the Federal government and B.C. government sent billions to support a Chinese shipbuilder to build four new ferries. Those ships could, of course have been built in Canada, with Canadian steal and aluminium, and with Canadian labour.

Meanwhile, while Canadians decline to buy American food products and stay away from American vacation spots, our government plans to spend $29 billion of our tax dollars on new fighter aircraft, (F35) made, maintained and serviced in the U.S.   They are also spending over $10 billion on American maritime patrol aircraft, (P8 Poseidon),not to mention that all of the military components on Canada’s new ‘River Class’ destroyers are American systems.

Now you may be thinking that for some rational reason, American weapon systems are simply better.  You would be wrong on two counts.  One, they’re not better, you are just a victim of American propaganda.  Americans have the biggest and best of everything, their healthcare system? murder rate?, government system?, you get the point.  Secondly, there are alternatives.  Saab and Bombardier together, build a maritime patrol aircraft every bit as good as anything the Americans make, and they would be built, maintained and supported in Canada.  Saab also makes the Gripen ‘E’ fighter jet, a first class aircraft with technology capable of seeing the supposedly invisible American F35.  If Canada buys the Saab Gripen, they too would be built in Canada, providing Canadian jobs.  Canada would also control the technology and source codes needed to maintain and operate the aircraft, conditions reserved for Americans with the F35.

As for our ships, there are absolutely no naval systems, or weapons made in the U.S. that don’t have an equal or better alternative made in Europe.

So, while Canadians retaliate and costs Americans billions in lost product sales and tourism income, know that our government, ‘the guys promoting Canada Strong’ are more than making up for any American losses with our tax dollars.
